"We do not want a revolution. We wish no harm to those in power behind the scenes, we only wish to help them to become more honest."

"They may snarl a bit in the process, but who cares."

Edward Hamlyn

"Taxpayers are going to own about $700 billion—or a trillion, or more—in bad debts amassed by what were supposed to be the best financial brains in the world. What we will own are potentially worthless assets for which there are currently no private buyers. After more than three decades of being told we can’t afford to keep a modest safety net beneath the people on Main Street, we have thrown the mother of all lifelines to Wall Street."

"This is a serious crisis that is also a giant game of chicken by the Bush Administration. If they win, they have completely taken over the government, and the last power that the Congress ever had is gone, and so are our rights! If they lose, we may have a chance of coming out of this debacle with some resemblance of a balanced democracy still intact. If we have a severe depression, then we will survive it. We are a nation of hard workers who understand that to stand together is our greatest strength and together we can get through anything. If we allow this Administration to take away our Constitutional rights and the checks and balances inherent in that Constitution, then they will divide us against ourselves to survive, and we all lose! It is time to consider our nation first, and tell these dictator-wannabes to take a hike!"

Joseph Stiglitz:
"This is clearly the most serious problem since the great depression and in some ways worse in terms of the financial institutions.” Stiglitz commented, referring to the fact that lenders are unwilling to take risks to finance each other because they no longer have complete access to their own undertakings let alone those of other institutions.

"The reason, in part, is that while some of the same problems that occurred during the great depression and have occurred since, such as excessive leverage, pyramid schemes, bubbles, have happened before, the so called innovation of Wall Street, the financial innovations, that were supposed to manage risk, created a kind of non transparency that is now so great that no one knows exactly the magnitude of the risk they face.”

"Nonlethal weapons designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them..." Frequently, it doesn't work out that way: "Obey or Die."
But you were being unruly. You might be dangerous, at least dangerous to those who rule us. And honestly, the fact that you may be homeless, starving and desperate is no reason to be rude or uncooperative.

Dennis Kucinich:

"The U.S government has been turned into an engine that accelerates the wealth upwards into the hands of a few. The Wall Street bailout, the Iraq War, military spending, tax cuts to the rich, and a for-profit health care system are all about the acceleration of wealth upwards. And now, the American people are about to pay the price of the collapse of the $513 trillion Ponzi scheme of derivatives."
"The double standard is stunning: their profits are their profits, but their losses are our losses."
